We are accepting applications for law graduates to join us in 2020.
With 78 people across our Dunedin and Wanaka offices, we’re a mid-sized law firm with heart. We value working hard together and bringing our ‘A’ game to work. But we also have fun - we value each other and the roles we all have in the firm. Our staff tell us that we are friendly, open to different ways of working and that we trust each other to do the right thing. We encourage a healthy balance between work and other stuff, and we offer a competitive salary and benefits including Southern Cross Healthcare, flexibility, and plenty of opportunities to learn and develop. Our commitment to ongoing development reaches far beyond technical/legal education topics. We support a range of activities which are designed to help our people flourish as individuals, and in our lives outside of work.
We’re committed to introducing our graduates to the real world workings of law in a positive and supportive environment. Partners, senior lawyers and peers all have a role in supporting our new graduates as they transition from being a student to a legal professional, and engaging in real work for real clients.
Depending on your aspirations and our openings you could spend your first 12 months rotating around multiple teams in our Dunedin office, gaining exposure to different aspects of the law. This includes time working in Commercial, Agri-business, Dispute Resolution, Employment and Health and Safety, Private Client work (estates, trusts, wills, and relationship property), and Resource Management/ Environmental. Or, if your interests align with opportunities we can offer, we may appoint you straight into a particular team. Simply put, we try hard to provide meaningful and individually tailored learning opportunities.
We’d like to hear from people who genuinely have an affinity for the Otago region and are keen to establish their legal career in Dunedin. You’ll be in the final throes of your law degree, ideally from a New Zealand University. You will really enjoy working in teams, you will be an all-rounder with a range of outside interests, you will be an excellent communicator, and most importantly, you’ll be genuinely excited about who we are as a law firm and an employer.
Applications are open until 31 May 2019.
Your application should include your CV, your academic transcript, a covering letter telling us about who you are, and two references.
We’ll be shortlisting and interviewing candidates in June, and so we will ask those who have been successful to come in and meet some of our team. We may want to ring your nominated referees, in which case we’ll call you first and let you know. There may also be some further interviews and assessments. When we have made our decision, we will be letting people know whether they have been successful or not.
